Blast from the Past: 19th Century Pistol at Fairmont Pittsburgh
A percussion pocket pistol found during the 2007 excavation of Three PNC Plaza was recently added to the collection of artifacts on permanent display at Fairmont Pittsburgh. The “sash pistol” - one of more than 25,000 objects recovered on the current site of the hotel - was made in Liège, Belgium between 1820 and 1840 and is a single-round weapon likely carried by a woman for self-defense. Its small size was easily concealed in a sash or other outer garment. The brass and wooden pistol required extensive restoration which was completed by Christine Davis Consultants, the team originally commissioned to do the archeological survey of the site. The pistol is now proudly displayed in a floating case in Andys lobby bar. In honor of the new artifact, Andys has created a specialty cocktail called The Smoking Gun, a spin on an Old Fashioned made with cognac, rum and bourbon and served tableside from a smoking bottle.

Pop Culture Favorites Come to Fairmont
From James Bond to J.R. Ewing to Jay Gatsby, guests can experience the luxe lifestyles of some of pop culture’s favorite characters at Fairmont. Erik Lorincz, Head Bartender at The Savoy’s famed American Bar, was on set for the new Bond flick, Skyfall, giving tips and tricks to the onscreen bartenders on serving the perfect cocktail. To celebrate the new movie, Erik has developed the official Skyfall cocktail, created especially for the movie premiere launch and now available at The Savoy. Fairmont Dallas is offering a Dallas Oil Baron Experience Package that lets guests live like a Ewing in a luxurious Fairmont Gold room. Guests will explore Southfork Ranch, the original home of the famed Ewing family, with a private tour for two before shopping in style at Neiman Marcus with complimentary BMW car service to the store’s downtown location. The Plaza is also getting ready for its latest silver screen moment when The Great Gatsby debuts next year: the book and film’s most climactic scene takes place in a suite at the hotel. And the King of Pop Culture has made his way to Bermuda. The Fairmont Hamilton Princess has put a series of four Andy Warhol prints of Queen Elizabeth II on display in its lobby.

Banff’s Grande Dame Spruces Up for her 125th
In 2013 The Fairmont Banff Springs will celebrate 125 years by putting together a full schedule of special events, exclusive offers, community engagement and much more. Opened in 1888, the landmark hotel was the inspiration of Sir William Cornelius Van Horne, 19th Century railway pioneer and hotel visionary, who famously quipped, “If we can't export the scenery, we'll import the tourists.” Recent renovations leading up to the celebrations include The Presidential Suite – now called the Royal Suite – perched on the top floor of the hotel, and the hotel’s two Spa Suites – now called the Terrace Suites. These luxurious and large suites are the only rooms in the hotel with a terrace/balcony for their exclusive use. The Rundle Lounge has also been refurbished from top to bottom for the occasion.

Hawaiian Culture at Fairmont
