Nostalgia buffs, dreamers and art lovers take note: The echo of the Belle Époque era can still be heard in this monumental tribute to Paris, which underscores the close relationship between Québec and France. After taking in this exhibit, visitors will find their thoughts turn to the City of Light, the source of inspiration for many an artist, inventor, romantic and poet. www.mcq.org/index_en.html

Renovations at the Saint Pierre Auberge
Half a million dollars has been invested in the Saint Pierre to, among other things, revitalize the décor, purchase high-end sheets and comforters, redo the lighting and change the carpeting in the 31 rooms and suites, restore all the furniture and floors, add HD wall-mounted televisions and acquire a half dozen paintings of landscapes and heritage buildings for the guest rooms.

Great news regarding another property owned by the Gilbert family: Hôtel 71, located next door to the Saint Pierre. The spacious 1200 sq. ft. penthouse (no. 720) on the roof of the hotel will soon have its own private terrace. From this excellent vantage point on the tallest building in the neighbourhood, the penthouse’s occupants will be able to admire the view of the Old Port, St. Lawrence River and Cape Diamant.

What’s new in 2013 in the Jacques-Cartier Area
If you want to try a new winter sport, then Hok skiing is for you! Also known as snowshoe skiing, Hok skiing is described as a cross between Nordic skiing and snowshoeing. This activity is offered at the Station touristique Duchesnay resort.

Downhill skiers, telemarkers, off-trail snowboarders and alpine touring skiers will be pleased to learn that the Parc national de la Jacques-Cartier has a new 100 hectare ski park. A shuttle, the Loup Express, now brings visitors to the start of the sentier des Loups trail.

Two new groomed glade run trails are now open at Stoneham Mountain Resort. One is at the intermediate level, and the other presents a pulse-pounding challenge for the truly brave.

A new 6 km (3.7 mile) snowshoeing trail has been laid out at Camp Mercier in the Réserve faunique des Laurentides wildlife preserve.

To celebrate its 50th anniversary, Valcartier Vacation Village has launched the Bring Your Old Man promotion! Every Sunday, each person aged 16 to 25 gets a 50% discount off a Passport+Rafting ticket when accompanied by a person aged 50 or older who buys a regularly priced Passport+Rafting ticket!
